You've been told time and again that green tea is good for you. Antioxidants and a whole laundry list of how good it is PLUS it helps in weight loss too. Yes, I have been drinking copious amounts of green tea in the hope that I might get skinnier but I guess it has to be an orchestrated effort combining diet, exercise and lots of green tea.
Now, we want to ensure you're getting the best deal even when it comes to green tea. How? Well here's a tip I learnt when I was researching online about what green tea does for you. Apparently all it takes is a little splash of lemon juice. Easy peasy!
"According to some studies, adding a splash of citrus juice (lemon is optimal) to your green tea can help maximize the effectiveness of the catechins, a powerful antioxidant, in the drink. When lemon juice is included in the mix, the cancer-fighting catechins are five times more likely to survive the digestive process and work their magic. If the yellow fruit isn't your cup of tea (pun intended), try orange, lime (here's a recipe for a green tea lime cooler), or grapefruit. So go ahead and give your next batch of tea a super squeeze."
Sounds like a weird combo? Just try it, it's pretty yum and what I find with green tea alone, it helps my crazy hunger pangs between breakfast and lunch. A whole jug of this potion makes me feel all better. I'm also a huge fan of lemon juice in the mornings. For those with a weak stomach, don't try this at home! Mix the juice of half a lemon into room temperature water and voila! It helps kickstart your day and also assist in cleansing your tired overworked liver. My daily concoction is a blend of matcha and sencha, I learnt this from a friend's mom (I might not be doing it right!) but I blend the two teas and steep it for 40mins with cold water. Dissolves like a dream! Then serve with a splash of lemon juice.
Now how's that for a Sunday morning post? Hopefully this little nugget of information will get you starting the week right!
